Dance Academy Sevenoaks Newsletter   Autumn 2010

Dear Parents & Students

Where has the last year gone!  I cannot believe dasevenoaks is approaching the end of a second year!  Thank you all for your continued support – the school would not exist without you all.  I have highlighted below news of exciting events which will be taking place and achievements of our students this term.

Musical Theatre Summer School Workshops
dasevenoaks is running an exciting 5 day summer school in Musical Theatre.  The week will conclude with a showcase medley of music, dance and acting from a range of well known musicals.  The workshop will run from Monday 26th July until Friday 30th July, 10am – 3pm daily, and is being run by theatre and industry professionals.  It is open to students aged 4-16 and I hope many of you will be able to participate.  Letters have been handed out to all students.  Further details can be found at dasevenoaks.co.uk

School Show March 2011
A whole school show is planned for March 2011 and the Stag Theatre is booked for 25th and 26th March.  This will involve all pupils in dasevenoaks.  If there are any parents who would be able to help backstage, with costumes, make-up and chaperoning please contact the School Office.  Help will be needed!

At the moment, I am in talks with a professional group of musicians and as such some sponsorship is needed.  Please contact me if there are any parents who are interested in sponsoring the show.  It would be a fantastic opportunity for the students to work alongside “live musicians”.

Exams
Firstly, congratulations to all ISTD students who took exams back in March 2010.  All students did well, reflecting their hard work and Jodie’s commitment.

On Sunday 20th June, 30 students took their RAD exams in Pre Primary, Primary, Grades 2 and 4.  They have all worked hard throughout the year and deserve to have done well.  I will notify you via e mail as soon as I receive the results.

Chance to Dance June 2010
Our school performed three separate dances this year in Chance to Dance: one from our Teen Street Jazz combined with “da Dance Crew”; one from our combined Grade 2 and Grade 4 ballet classes and one from our new senior Contemporary Dance class.  Everyone who went along enjoyed the show and commented on how strong the dancers were, costumes and choreography.  A big thank you to Jodie and Ricia for their hard work.

Changes in the Timetable
Some change to the timetable is inevitable in order to accommodate the new grades after an exam session and growing numbers particularly in our younger students.  We are also introducing a new boys only street jazz class in September on a Saturday morning, 9.15-10am.  The new timetable for September is enclosed with this newsletter.  I would like to see more students crossing over into different dance styles.  It helps them become more versatile as dancers.

Dates for your Diary
There will be no classes on Saturday 25th September 2010 because of Open Day at Walthamstow Hall.

School Show – Friday 25th and Saturday 26th March 2011.

I am sure you appreciate that whilst I am a regular user of the halls we use; there are occasions when the halls do have other advance booking commitments.  I am assured that these are kept to a minimum and we are always offered alternative dates.  I will notify you in advance of any changes.

Lost Property/Second Hand Box
There is a box of lost property kept at Kippington Hall alongside the second hand box.  Please check the box if you have lost anything!  It is available on Tuesday evenings from 4-8pm at Kippington Hall.  Mrs Wright from our Wednesday Pre Primary class has kindly volunteered to monitor the box.  She can be contacted on 07940 571207.

Teaching staff
Nicola Pye joined us half way through this term as a teacher on a Tuesday evening.  Nicola is in charge of the ISTD syllabus and is introducing jazz awards which are examined at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.  She is very experienced and a great source of knowledge with the ISTD examining body.  We are pleased to have her on board.

Ricia’s contemporary dance classes are proving to be very popular and her classes are fun, innovative and creative.  Why not go along for a free trial class.

Website and Contact details
Please refer to the website for all information about the timetable, term dates and where to buy the uniform etc (www.dasevenoaks.co.uk

Please inform the office by email (dasevenoaks@btconnect.com) if any of your contact details have changed this term (including e mail address, mobile telephone and address).

Fees
I have been compelled to make a small increase in fees from September 2010.  This ensures that a high standard of teaching is maintained and reflects the increases in costs (hall rentals, admin, salary costs etc) I have faced since September 2008.

All fees are due in the first week of the new term.   Invoices will be distributed at the end of term and payment should be returned with the advice slip.  Please feel free to post payments to me at my home address.  This should ensure that time is not wasted during teaching time.  In the future, any bank charges incurred due to cheques being returned to me by the bank will need to be passed on.

Uniform
A new da t shirt has been introduced for the Street Jazz and Contemporary classes.  If you do not have one please order one through your teacher at a cost of £10 each.

Parents, please ensure that the correct uniform is worn and hair is tied back as we endeavour to look professional at all times.  All uniform should be named.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a relaxing Summer break and look forward to seeing you all again in September.
